Chameleon Dance Edmonton

The Chameleon Dance Edmonton was active 2007-2011 under the artistic direction of Jojo Lucila and Ida Beltran-Lucila. This was a modern ballet company committed to nurturing and showcasing their artists' talents and versatility in dance and its related arts, thus the inspiration to name it after the chameleon. Primarily versed in the contemporary and classical ballet idioms, the artists were trained in the various dance styles, i.e. jazz, ethnic/folk dances, hiphop, martial arts - as may be needed by the repertoire. Working with youth and adults regardless of training background and artistic ability, the Chameleon Dance Edmonton integrated itself and collaborated with local, national and international artists in dance and the related arts for a global dance perspective with the broadest base of influences.

Chameleon Dance Edmonton's repertoire ranged from the lyrical, contemporary and modern ballet but specialized in dances depicting Filipino culture, themes, and folk and ethnic dances through the modern ballet idiom. Aside from its own season shows, the company was a featured performer in the Feats Festival of Dance in Edmonton for 2008-2009, in the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees' 2008 Annual Convention, Citie Ballet's Community Spirit, the Gawad Kalinga Cultural Night for former Philippine president Fidel V. Ramos, Philippine Arts Festival 2010, and several guest performances for commercial pop shows and community events. It also has performed in a collaborative project with Citie Ballet and Francois Chevennement this last June 2009 and a featured performing group in the Aberdeen International Youth Festival in Scotland in 2010.
